The Project - Looking at skulls

For the purposes of the project I would need to make a complex sculpture to act as the focus and reference point for the developments I had in mind.

I needed to decide what form this sculpture should take and having recently spent time studying animal skulls - both through drawings and plaster models - I thought that an abstract form, reflecting skull structure would be a good starting point.

Skulls are for the most part hollow, and to achieve that I decided to use construction techniques that I had used with many of my play sculptures - to joint thin strips of timber over light wooden formers, leaving in this case, apertures corresponding to eye sockets and nasal cavities in an actual skull.
